Some Thoughts From the Kids

Makenzie

Today while working in the village Makenzie just loved taking pictures with the little children.  The kids loved to have their pictures taken!  Their favorite part was looking at the pictures on the digital camera after we had taken them.  They would laugh and giggle and ask for more!!  Makenzies favorite part was handing out candy.  She was the master of the candy and probably gave out 80% of all the candy to the little children.  She felt happy because all of the children were crowding around her and following us down the road.  Not just because of the candy, but because they wanted to be seen by the Americans.  All of the older Indians think that Makenzie is just adorable, and they will pinch her cheek and then kiss their fingers.  It is the equivalent of kissing someone on the cheek in their society.  Makenzie was definately the hit of the town.

Keaton

He was originally very grumpy about our trip as this is probably the last thing that he would have chosen to do over Christmas Break.  Keaton is loving the people though and how friendly they are.  Everything is so different from America.  Doing the service today was really fun.  It was fun to get to see the people in the village because they were all very friendly and loving toward us.  Looking back on the path behind us and seeing the road look clean and neat instead of covered with trash made me feel very good.  When he took his first pictures of some little kids and showed it to them they just started giggling, he was very taken aback.  All of a sudden he went from not wanting to be there to having a huge smile on his face.  Amazing what unconditional love from someone you have never met can do to change you!

Carson

Carson was a real hard worker today.  He especially enjoyed that all of the people would wave and say hi to him.  He thought it was great that if you waved to kids with two hands or just waggled your fingers at them they would respond the same way, and giggle and smile back at you.  I thought it was great when you gave candy to the kids I felt really good inside to see how happy they were.  Also, it is amazing how the kids liked getting their picture taken.  They would come up to you and say PHOTO?!  They did not necessarily want a picture, but wanted to be in your picture with you.  Seeing the people and how kind they are is Carson's favorite part of being in India.  It is amazing to him that everyone has been so kind to him.

McKay

Mckay is probably having the most difficult time of anyone here.  As you know he is very shy, and the Indian people and children especially are anything but shy.  Most of them are right there in your face and excited about the experience.  This is exactly the kind of thing McKay struggles with.  The idea of going around handing out candy to strangers was something he just could not do, he just kind of hid and watched.  He will come around, but right now is very cautious.  He has had his cheek pinched by a couple of people and the look of shock and horror on his face is priceless!

  1. I should have read this post first:). I can imagine Makenzie eating this whole thing up and the reactions of all the other kids are about what I expected except for Carson's, he was surprised that people were nice to him and liked him? That boy is nothing but loveable!
