The Village and New Years
Today we did some local service in the village that we are located in. The Indians just tend to throw their trash wherever is convenient. I have seen 2 people now walk outside their homes and just chuck a bag of garbage across the road. Needless to say, this is not very conducive to keeping things looking neat and shiny. As today was New Years day ( a big holiday in India) we decided to go and pick up trash in the village just down the road. We did this for a several hours and really did make a short section of the roadside look much better. After we did that, we walked through the village handing out little caramel candies to the little kids and wishing everyone a Happy New Years. One of the very cool things that they do o New Years is to write greetings in both English and Tamil in Chalk. We saw beautiful sayings and chalk art in front of every home and on many of the roadways. To do this they use a powdered form of chalk and let in fall through their hands to make these intricate and beautiful pictures and sayings. Very original and unique. Seems like most of them were actually done by the children. I will let pictures tell the story from here.
If you would like to see where we are at take a look at the following Google Maps Link, or just google it. Basically we are outside of a small farming village in the middle of not very much.
I wonder what the locals think of tall Keaton, they all seem fairly short...(is that because they are all kids:)). Kenzie looks like she is having a great time, hope Mckay is feeling better!
